Tongue-tie Practitioner in Sussex

Writer's picture: Bex MainiBex Maini

It's official, I can safely and confidently assess and perform tongue-tie release operations in babies aged up to 6 months. If you're wondering why on earth a photographer would undertake such training, its because I'm also a part time dental surgeon. Bex Maini's alter ego is Dr Rebecca Maini BDS. My reasons for wanting to train to perform tongue-tie release operations were explained in my blog post about my own breastfeeding experience here. I've been on the waiting list for two years and finally managed to arrange my visit to complete my training so I can launch my own service here locally in Lewes, East Sussex.

I travelled to Southampton to undertake my hands-on training with midwife Jayne Threlfall at Southampton University Hospital over two days. Working with Jayne was wonderful, she's so experienced and great at teaching, explaining things and demonstrating, I felt in very good hands as I got used to working with much smaller patients than I'm used to as a general dental surgeon!

Some of the parents kindly signed the consent to allow me to share some photos here. I will write a separate post about tongue-tie giving more information about the various types and severity but if you're interested in learning more, I have outlined some of the issues on my Tongue-tie Release in Sussex page.

You can also follow along on Facebook and Instagram for more behind the scenes and educational information related to tongue-tie and breastfeeding. If you know anyone who's struggling to feed (bottle or breast) who's baby may have tongue-tie then please do share this with them. Such a simple procedure can make all the difference for both mum and baby!
